Detailed Itinerary 

Day 1

Arrival Delhi On arrival in Delhi , transfer and check into the hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour of Old and New Delhi . Visit the Red Fort that contains within it some exquisite palaces, the Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India with a courtyard capable of holding 25,000 devotees, the Chandni Chowk bazaar and Raj Ghat, a memorial for Mahatma Gandhi. Also visit Humayun's Tomb, the best-preserved example of early Mogul architecture dating back to the 16th century as well as the Qutub Minar, a soaring, 73 mt high tower of victory, built in 1193. Also drive around the diplomatic area and see several government buildings. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 2

Delhi – Agra : 205 kms | 4 hrs by road In the morning, drive to Agra , home to the Taj Mahal. Visit Sikandra en route, where Emperor Akbar was buried. On arrival, check into the hotel. In the afternoon, visit the Taj Mahal, built by the Emperor Shah Jehan in the memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The immortal legacy with its flowing curves of marble domes and elegant minarets enchants every visitor. Visit the Agra Fort and admire the Jehangir Mahal and Khas Mahal for their grandeur, the Sheesh Mahal for its detailed mirror work and the Deewan-e-Am where the Emperor met his subjects. Also visit the marble tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah built by Empress Noor Jehan for her father. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 3

Agra – Varanasi : 1 hr 20 mins by air In the morning, transfer to the airport to board a flight for Varanasi . The city has ancient roots - Varanasi or Kashi, as it was called in the olden times, is a supreme Hindu pilgrimage center as it is the permanent domain of Lord Shiva. On arrival, transfer and check into the hotel. In the afternoon, visit Sarnath, the place where Lord Buddha preached his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. It has a large stupa dating back to the 6th century as well as one of Ashoka's Pillar, the ruins of a brick temple and monasteries and a museum. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 4

Varanasi – Bodhgaya: 242 kms | 6 hrs by road Early in the morning, go for a boat ride on the Riiver Ganges. Immerse yourself in the absorbing spectacle of the devout pilgrims, residents and visitors from the world-over assembled on the banks of the Ganga to offer prayers. Later in the day, drive to Bodhgaya, one of the four most important pilgrimage spots for Buddhists. Check into the hotel. Enjoy rest of the day at leisure. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 5

Bodhgaya Enjoy a full day tour of Bodhgaya. Stop by at the Bodhi Tree, a descendant of the original tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. Visit the Mahabodhi Temple , crowned by a 50 mt pyramidal spire and housing a large ornate statue of Buddha. It was built in the 11th century on the site of a temple built in the 3rd century BC. Take a tour of the Bodhgaya archaeological museum, which contains an interesting collection of Buddha figures and pillars. Also visit the Shaivite Monastery and the Jaganath Temple. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 6

Bodhgaya – Patna : 115 kms | 4 hrs by road In the morning, drive to Patna . Visit Rajgir and Nalanda en route. Buddha spent 12 years in Rajgir and the first Buddhist Council was held here. Visit the stupas and ruins of palaces dating back to the 5th century BC and the Laksmi Narayan Temple . Nearby Nalanda was also founded in the 5th century BC and had one of the world's great Buddhist universities. Visit the remains of the great stupa and the archeological museum. On arrival, check into the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 7

Patna – Kushinagar: 253 kms | 6 hrs by road In the morning, drive to Kushinagar, the place where Buddha breathed his last. En route visit Vaishali, where Buddha preached his last sermon and see the Ashoka Pillar. On arrival, check into the hotel. In the afternoon, visit the site of Lord Buddha's cremation, which still has remains of the brick cremation stupa. Also visit the Mahaparinirvana Temple and admire the reclining Buddha within. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 8

Kushinagar – Lumbini: 161 kms | 5 hrs by road In the morning, drive to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. On arrival, check into the hotel. In the afternoon, visit the Maya Devi Temple . On the south of the Maya Devi temple there is the famous sacred bathing pool known as Puskarni. Admire the beautiful shrines that have been built by devotees from Buddhist countries. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 9

Lumbini – Balrampur: 197 kms | 5 hrs by road In the morning, drive to Balrampur. On arrival, check into the hotel. In the afternoon, visit Sharavasti, where Buddha spent 24 rainy seasons preaching. It is believed that this is the place where he performed the miracle of sitting on a thousand-petal lotus and multiplying himself a million times with fire and water emanating from his body. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 10

Balrampur – Lucknow : 208 kms | 5 hrs by road In the morning, drive to Lucknow . On arrival, check into the hotel. Take an afternoon city tour of Lucknow . Visit Jumma Masjid, the 19th century mosque, the Bara Imambara built in 1784 by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula and the Chota Imambara, which has a golden dome, elaborate calligraphy, beautiful chandeliers and the Nawabs' silver throne. Admire the Residency - this famous red-brick building was the home of the British Resident, and the scene of fierce fighting during the Siege of Lucknow. Also visit the Rumi Gate, the Picture Gallery and the Clock Tower. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 11

Lucknow – Delhi : 6 hrs 30 mins by train Transfer to the railway station to board a train for Delhi . On arrival, transfer and check into the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 12

Departure Delhi Transfer to the airport for onward travel.
